Explore the 6 Tasks for Controlling the Body in Motion

Body Control..when kids are in motion they… GO! Stop GO! By promoting good posture, perceptual skills and coordination will be developed with practice of this series of tasks. The job for your child is to learn how to start into motion and then they will need to learn how to arrest that motion. The starting and stopping of movement is the focus of these tasks.

Moving by Climbing

 Task ONE:   CLIMBING

Exercise for Kids Includes: Climbing…It Builds Body Control

STEP BY STEP PROGRESSIONS

To work on body control during kids play try this:

YOU can make a big difference in your youngster’s body control during their play.

Find a safe climbing wall or playground station that will provide a climbing challenge.

  1. You, the helper, should be very near the child at the start.
  2. Discuss goal :  to move their body upwards..
  3. Give a slight lift to begin actions.
  4. Shadow the child’s upward movement. Stay close.
  5. Follow ALL movement: all the way UP
  6. Suggest that the child REST at TOP before they return to start.
  7. HELPER HINT: Never leave the child.
  8. Keep your hands on the child during first few attempts.
  9. Repeat, if strength allows.

HELPER Note: Suggest that they Grasping well with their hands and when pulling body weight upwards. These tips will help the child tremendously!

TASK #1 OBJECTIVE: HAND & FOOT USE & Body Control While in Motion. This task will allow the child to explore and develop control over movement and body control. Arm strength is promoted.

Task TWO:  Jumping to LAND on a Target

JUMPING

STEP BY STEP PROGRESSIONS

To work on body control during kids play try this:

YOU can make a big difference in your youngster’s body control during their play.

This task sets up a problem and the child’s skills will allow him to solve it at their current level of mastery

On the practice pathway place a Target that will NOT be slippery when the child lands on it.

A mark with chalk, a small piece of tape or sticky dot will do. Be Safe.

  1. Have the child stand at one end of the practice pathway and look down the course.
  2. Establish that as the START SPOT.
  3. They need a minute to size up the situation.
  4. Ask them to place their feet side-by-side. Keep feet together:  JUMP JUMP JUMP to the finish line.
  5. Establish that their TARGET is at the FINISH LINE is at the end of the pathway/runway.
  6. Using the CUE WORDS: READY, SET, GO! begin the action.
  7. Let them make EVEN JUMPS towards the FINISH LINE.
  8. Suggest that they bend their knees as they LAND.
  9. Return to Start Spot and repeat.

Note: Watch the running and jumping phases. Softly make suggestions: keep head high, shoulders level, bend knees on landing.

TASK #2 OBJECTIVE:   HAND & FOOT USE & Body Control While in Motion. This task will allow the child to explore and develop control over movement and body control.

Jumping for preschoolers

STEP BY STEP PROGRESSIONS

To work on body control during kids play try this:

This task sets up a problem and the child’s skills will allow him to solve it at their current level of mastery

Task FOUR: Run, Run, and Jump OVER A Cone To A Target

JUMP over a Cone

STEP BY STEP PROGRESSIONS

To work on body control during kids play try this:

YOU can make a big difference in your youngster’ s body control during their play.

This task sets up a problem and the child’s skills will allow him to solve it at their current level of mastery

On the practice pathway place a Target that will NOT be slippery when the child lands on it.

A mark with chalk, a small piece of tape or sticky dot will do. Be Safe.

Using a long running approach on a pathway will be the action in this task. But you can increase the difficulty for your child by placing a barrier [a CONE or soft object] to be jumped over to challenge the child’s jumping skills.

Note: Make sure object is less than 4 inches high [10 cm.]. Place the target very close in front of the cone/object.

  1. Have the child stand at one end of the practice pathway and look down the course.
  2. Establish that as the START SPOT.
  3. They need a minute to size up the situation
  4. Ask them to THINK about running a few steps towards the TARGET.
  5. The TARGET is at the end of the pathway/runway.
  6. BUT ask them to try to JUMP over the cone/object.
  7. Using the CUE WORDS: READY, SET, GO! begin the action.
  8. Let them run (any number of steps) towards the TARGET.
  9. Suggest that they bend their knees as they JUMP over CONE and LAND on TARGET.
  10. Make your performance improvement suggestions.
  11. Return to Start Spot and repeat.

TASK #4 OBJECTIVE:  HAND & FOOT USE & Body Control While in Motion. This task will allow the child to explore and develop control over movement and body control.

Task FIVE:  Tiny Jump ~ Tiny Jump BIG!! Jumping

Exercise for Kids Includes: Repetitive Jumping…It Builds Body Control

Tiny JUmps for Preschoolers

STEP BY STEP PROGRESSIONS

To work on body control during kids play try this:

YOU can make a big difference in your youngster’s body control during their play.

This task sets up a problem and the child’s skills will allow him to solve it at their current level of mastery.

This challenging release of energy will get the youngsters moving and strengthen their legs.

  1. Have the child stand at one end of the practice pathway and look down the course.
  2. Establish that as the START SPOT.
  3. They need a minute to size up the situation
  4. Ask them to place their feet side-by-side.
  5. Both of you decide where the FINISH LINE will be at the end of the pathway/runway.
  6. Ask the child to JUMP 2 times ~ Tiny Jumps
  7. Ask them to add a BIG JUMP after the 2 Tiny jumps.
  8. The Tiny Jumps and the BIG JUMP happen one right after the other for 3 JUMPS in a row.
  9. Using the CUE WORDS: READY, SET, GO! begin the action.
  10. Watch carefully and make suggestions after the last jump.
  11. Make your performance improvement suggestions softly.
  12. Return to Start Spot and repeat.

Note: Watch the jumping and landing phases carefully. Softly make suggestions: keep head high, shoulders level, push off the ground with both legs ~ evenly, bend knees on landing.

TASK #5 OBJECTIVE: HAND & FOOT USE & Body Control While in Motion. This task will allow the child to explore and develop control over movement, strengthening the legs and building body control.

Task SIX:      ZIG ~ ZAG JUMPING With Precision

Zig Zag Jumping for preschoolers

STEP BY STEP PROGRESSIONS

To work on body control during kids play try this:

YOU can make a big difference in your youngster’s body control during their play.

This task sets up a problem and the child’s skills will allow him to solve it at their current level of mastery

Note: Place a set of 6 sticky dots or chalk marks, tiny tape strips on a practice pathway.

Place the dots in a zig~zag pattern with 10 inches [25 cm.] between them.

  1. Have the child stand at one end of the practice pathway and look down the course.
  2. Establish that as the START SPOT.
  3. They need a minute to size up the situation
  4. Establish a FINISH LINE is at the end of the pathway/runway.
  5. Ask them to JUMP on the first dot [nearest to them].
  6. Ask them to continue down the course, ZIG ZAG style
  7. Using the CUE WORDS: READY, SET, GO! begin the action.
  8. Use you hands to clap a rhythm.
  9. Make your performance improvement suggestions.
  10. Return to Start Spot and repeat.

TASK #6 OBJECTIVE: HAND & FOOT USE & Body Control While in Motion. This task will allow the child to explore and develop control over movement and body control.

Each SKILL SET has a series tasks to try under your watchful eyes.
Theses tiny jobs are quick to do.

Think of each task as: little jobs to do. But they will attempted under your educated eyes.

We all realize that PLAY is the work of children. Get your kids to work as they PLAY! Our learning never ends. Kids learning never ends.
